    Description

    West African States
    1000 Francs
    Pick #406Db
    1981
    ERROR (stuck rotors)
An uncirculated example of a banknote from the West African States: 1000 Francs, Pick #406Db, issued for release in Mali (letter "D"), dated 1981, with signature 15.  Flawless, except for light handling marks.  The note pictured in the scans is the actual one being offered for sale.  This note has an erroneous checksum (serial number).  The first three digits of the 9-digit number at the top of the note should correlate with the block number at the bottom-right, but due to stuck rotors on the printing press in the first three positions of the checksum, on this note they do not.  "000" normally correlates to "A.001"; "001" to "B.001", "002" to "C.001", and so on.  Thus, the correct serial number for series "R.001" would begin with "016".  Because the rotors that controlled the digits printing in the first three positions of the checksum were stuck and this problem went undetected for a period of time, a number of notes were printed with "000" in these positions, even though the block number was higher than "A.001". (Note that the other six digits of the checksum match those printed at the bottom-left.  This is normal, and any mismatch between these numbers would also be indicative of a printing error.)
High-resolution scans or more information available upon request.  Many other (primarily African) banknotes are available in my eBay store.

    Shipping Charges
    IMPORTANT:
Please read this entire section carefully.  If you don’t agree with the following policy, then please refrain from bidding on or purchasing my merchandise.
    Buyers with a U.S. address:
    Shipping cost is
    .00
, whether you buy 1 item or many items.
Shipment will be by first-class package (USPS) with delivery confirmation, which costs me that amount for postage, packaging materials, and PayPal fees to receive your payment for shipping.
    Buyers with a non-U.S. address:
    Normally, your shipping cost is
    .00
, but see exceptions below.  If you buy multiple items, ask about the possibility of a discounted rate.  If your order totals more than 0, I offer free shipping.  Shipment is by first-class registered airmail, and the fee is my average cost for postage, registration, packaging materials, and fees to receive your payment for shipping costs.  Shipment without a tracking number is an option, at the buyer's risk, for certain countries; the shipping fee in that case will be

if your order fits in a small envelope,

if it requires a larger one. Contact me before bidding or buying if you are interested in this option.
    Shipment by
    Express Mail
is also available; rates are variable depending on the total value of the order and the country of destination.  Contact me with your details and I will calculate the cost of shipping by this means.
Exceptions to the above policy may be negotiated on a case-by-case basis, but will generally only be made for those with whom I have already done business or for those living in countries where items do not typically disappear en route to their destination.
