Celtic Crossroads Cross
The Crossroads Cross is based on a design by Thomas O’Shaughnessy for Old St.Patrick’s Church in Chicago.
Between1912 and 1922, in addition to creating multi-colored stenciling for the wallsand ceiling, O’Shaughnessy designed, fabricated and installed all of thestained glass windows.
O’Shaughnessy used both traditional Celtic designs and Celtic-inspired original formsthroughout his windows.
The complexknot work, scrolls and interlacing is particularly evident in the Faith, Hopeand Charity triptych window at the back of the church choir loft.
The Crossroads Cross, with its interlacingpattern appears at the bottom of the center window.
O’Shaughnessy’s work is considered one of thefinest examples of Celtic art in North America.
TheCrossroads Cross is fabricated of solid cherry wood and is finished to match the cherry wood that is used throughout Old St. Patrick’s Church.
