George W. Shiebler Sterling Silver Chatelaine Belt Clip
Interesting Shiebler sterling silver belt clip for use as a chatelaine or pocket watch holder.  The segmented piece is made of three trapezoidal silver parts hinged together tapering from about 23 1/2mm at the top to about 13mm just before the clip.  Each panel has a different design design all with a natural theme. The top has a flower and large leaves, the center has a spider in it's web and the bottom I believe is an insect wrapped in a spiderweb cocoon.  The back is marked Sterling with the iconic Shiebler winged "S" followed by 317. Piece has a total length of 90mm and is a unique piece of Shiebler silver.
The name George W. Shiebler and Company is renowned among collectors of 19th century American silver and jewelry for its creative designs and high standards of craftsmanship. Shiebler's early production consisted of flatware patterns, but he is best know for his "Homeric Style" medallion flatware and curio medallion line of jewelry, which featured heads from Greek mythology, drawn from pattern books. Shiebler's work has drawn favorable comparisons to the silversmiths at Tiffany and Gorham
